Terms of Service
Last updated: 10 June 2026
By accessing or using Xratei (“the Service”) you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don’t use the Service.
1. The Service
Xratei is a free, ad-supported web app that converts between fiat currencies, cryptocurrencies, and precious metals using public market data. Xratei also offers a free public JSON API at xratei.com/api/v1 and an optional developer dashboard for managing API keys. Throughout these Terms, “the Service” means the website, the API, and the dashboard.
2. Not financial advice
Exchange rates returned by the website or the API are for general information only. They are not real-time trading prices, are subject to delay, may be inaccurate, and must not be relied upon for trading, investment, accounting, or legal decisions. Always verify rates with your bank, broker, or exchange before transacting.
3. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee any uptime, latency, or availability target for the API or the website.
4. Limitation of liability
In no event will Xratei, its operators, or its data providers be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to (a) scrape, crawl, or place automated load on the Service in a way that impairs availability for others; (b) attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or compromise the Service’s infrastructure; (c) use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms; (d) republish bulk API data in a way that competes directly with the original Service while removing Xratei attribution.
6. Use of the Xratei API
The Xratei API at /api/v1 is free for personal, commercial, and educational use, subject to the following:
- API keys. Programmatic access requires a free API key created in the dashboard. Keys are personal to your account, must not be shared between unrelated projects to evade limits, and remain subject to these Terms.
- Daily allowance. Each key currently includes 5,000 requests per UTC day (we may change the allowance); requests beyond it receive HTTP 429 until the day resets. Contact us if you need more.
- No SLA. The API is provided “as is” without any uptime or response-time guarantee.
- Fair use. Cloudflare may additionally throttle or block traffic patterns that look abusive (very high request rates, denial-of-service attempts, etc.), and we may revoke keys involved in abuse.
- Attribution. If you build a public product or website on top of the API, a visible “Powered by Xratei” link to xratei.com is appreciated but not required.
- No reselling raw data. Do not resell or redistribute the raw API responses as if they were your own dataset.
- Changes. We may add, change, version, or discontinue API endpoints at any time. Breaking changes will, where possible, be released under a new version path (e.g.
/api/v2).
7. Accounts & API keys
You do not need an account to use Xratei. If you create one to manage API keys:
- You must provide a valid email address and keep your password and API keys confidential. Activity under your keys is your responsibility.
- One account per person; do not create accounts by automated means.
- We may suspend or revoke accounts and keys involved in abuse of the Service or violations of these Terms.
- You can delete your account and keys at any time via the contact page; see our Privacy Policy for what we store and for how long.
8. Third-party content & ads
The website displays advertising served by Google AdSense and uses public market data behind the scenes. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, which apply when you interact with them.
9. Intellectual property
The Xratei name, design, code, and API surface (endpoint structure and response format) are owned by the operators. Underlying exchange-rate values are public market information and are not claimed as Xratei property.
10. Changes
We may update these Terms over time. Material changes will be reflected by a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the new Terms.
